Bravest and most loyal: Dog protected disabled owner from flames during house fire until help arrived

In Roseville, California, a brave and most definitely loyal dog has been celebrated as a hero after staying and lying atop of her disabled owner during a house fire and protecting her from the intense flames.

According to the Sacramento Metro Fire Department, David Hoffman tried his best to get his wife out of the burning home in Citrus Heights last month, but the smoke and the flames were too thick and dangerous. Both his wife and their eight-year-old dog, Maya, had been trapped in a burning bedroom. Fortunately the fire department were able to move very quickly. Hoffman’s wife, Melissa, 64, had suffered from a stroke earlier in the year. The Washington Post reported Melissa had reached for her wheelchair, but had fallen on her back; Maya was there to save her life.
