(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) The St. Joseph City Council passed a landfill rate increase at Monday night’s city council meeting. But, the rate increase will be substantially smaller then originally proposed.
In mid-November the city of St. Joseph held a work session about raising the landfill rates from $32 a ton to between $125 and $150 a tonnage. Local trash haulers then spoke out saying the numbers didn’t add up. The council and Mayor then held a public forum and came to an understanding.
City of St. Joseph Mayor, John Josendale says, “One of the things I’m very happy with on how that all happened was everybody talked. We sat and listened. The council sat and listened. We listened to what the community had to say. So, we came up with a compromise, and then from that, we created a task force, and we’ve got three of the haulers, we’ve got some city we’ve got some business owners. So, the task force has been put together to help us and guide us as we move forward down the road.”…
