Philomath wrestlers go up against best in Oregon

The 23rd annual Reser’s Tournament of Champions brought together many of the state’s top wrestlers Friday and Saturday at Sherwood in an all-classification showdown. Philomath High was among the schools sending squads to the event, which was held outside of Hillsboro for the first time in its history.

It was the toughest tournament that Philomath High’s wrestling team will see this season — and that includes the 4A state tournament.

“It’s not like anything I’ve ever seen,” Philomath High’s veteran wrestling coach Troy Woosley said. “There were 24 champions there and there were 51 kids that were in last year’s finals — whether it’s 6A, 5A, 4A, 3A. … It’s the best of the best.”…
