1 teen dead, 1 in critical condition after collision with semitrailer

MIDVALE — A 17-year-old Hillcrest High School student died after a collision with a parked semitrailer Saturday and a 19-year-old passenger was in critical condition, according to police.

Unified Police Sgt. Aymee Race said an SUV traveling west on Fort Union Boulevard collided with the trailer at 12:48 p.m. Saturday in the area of 7200 South and 800 East. Race said the driver “swerved to miss another vehicle and lost control on the wet roads,” causing the collision.

The 17-year-old driver, she said, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 19-year-old passenger was taken to the hospital in critical condition…
