In a land of preservation, where even rocks in our parks have protection, we have seen in some areas of the west a strange disappearance of one of our precious resources. Yes, I am talking about the expansive parking lot. It’s something we in this big open country have grown to expect and it seems that some people are determined to destroy this beautiful land structure.
Ok, not beautiful, but necessary for anyone who drives a car, parks it and enjoys a store. Salt Lake City has joined the likes of evil-minded groups to make sure that when we drive said car, we have nowhere to put it. Now, I love BYU campus with it’s descending hills and bastions of education, but I am highly disappointed with their determination to remove roads and parking so that it can be a “walking campus”. That would be fine if they installed moving sidewalks everywhere or had a high-tech person delivery drone system. But to just remove the convenience and let us discover walking seems rude.
As Dave puts it, we have cars, when you shut down your city by removing parking lots then wonder what happened to your thriving downtown, looking for some way to re-animate visitors with your paid or non-existent parking solution, my sympathy for you runs short.
Maybe we can take a minute to tell our public officials that we, in this century, still travel in cars and would enjoy a place to put them when we arrive. We could make it clear that we enjoy loading our purchases into this car without dealing with some tired, slow shuttle system. There has got to be a better solution…
