Arctic cold front brings colder air, gusty winds

The much talked about cold front is about to blast in, bringing colder air, gusty northwest winds this morning. We could even see a few spots of rain as the front initially glides in, mainly along and east of I-35. Winds will gust up to 40 mph, causing wind chills to feel like the 20s this evening, with temperatures dropping into the 30s and 40s in the afternoon. We have a Wind Advisory in place until 6pm that will transition to a Cold Weather Advisory from midnight to 10am tomorrow, as wind chills get down into the single digits/teens early Monday morning.

The cold is here for the rest of the work-week. We have mornings below freezing, in the 20s for the rest of the week and even staying at or below freezing into next weekend. Afternoon highs stick in the 40s all week long, but it might feel a tad colder with north winds sticking around.

By Wednesday, light showers or snow flurries may develop in West Texas, though dry air will likely prevent much from reaching the ground. Wintry weather confidence is increasing for late next week. Moisture moves back in Thursday and Friday and with the cold air in place, we will likely see some cold rain transitioning to wintry weather. Exact timing, location, type of precipitation, and amount(s) are still in question, but something we should have a clearer picture on around Tuesday. While it’s still uncertain how the event will unfold, but it looks like we’ll have wintry weather around the area Thursday night through Friday morning…
