‘Bear’ involved in luxury vehicle break-ins was a person in a costume, investigators say

Those living in bear country are well-aware that it’s crucial to keep vehicles and homes locked to prevent an animal break-in. It’s no secret that bears are curious animals with a tendency of letting their nose guide them to curious places in search of food. With that in mind, a story told to California authorities about how a bear broke into and damaged a Rolls Royce earlier this year is believable – until one digs a little deeper.

According to the California Department of Insurance, four suspects have been arrested in connection to an insurance fraud scheme that involved someone donning a bear costume to break into multiple vehicles and cause damage, presumably for benefit from subsequent insurance claims.

Suspects claimed that the bear break-in took place on January 28, 2024 in Lake Arrowhead, even providing security camera footage to their insurance company that captured the ‘bear’ breaking into a 2010 Rolls Royce Ghost and causing damage to its interior…
