Bloomingdale’s announced it will close its flagship store in San Francisco’s largest mall , the San Francisco Centre, in April. The 330,000-square-foot store, owned by Macy’s Inc., occupies five floors in the mall, which has experienced significant vacancies since the COVID-19 pandemic. Bloomingdale’s joins Nordstrom, which closed its flagship store at the mall in 2023 after 35 years.
The San Francisco Centre, managed by a receiver after previous owners Unibail Rodamco Westfield and Brookfield Properties exited in 2023, was set for public auction last year, but the sale has been delayed twice. Bloomingdale’s has a lease extending to 2046, and it remains unclear how the retailer will exit the agreement.
