No. 22 TCU Falls in Big 12 Opener to No. 14 Arizona State

FORT WORTH – Opening Big 12 Conference play against new member Arizona State, No. 22 TCU volleyball fell to the 14th ranked Sun Devils in three sets on Wednesday night inside Schollmaier Arena.

The Horned Frogs (8-3, 0-1 Big 12) struggled to find their rhythm early and close out sets. No. 14 Arizona State outhit TCU .272 to .200 but only held a slight advantage in kills and digs on the night. Melanie Parra led the offense with 14 kills and was the only Frog to finish in double figures. She added 11 digs for her fourth double-double of the year. Freshman Evan Hendrix provided a spark off the bench, racking up seven kills and two massive blocks.

Jalyn Gibson notched the first kill of the match, sending a ball right down the line. Knotted up at three, the Sun Devils pulled away with a 4-0 run, forcing TCU to call an early timeout. The Frogs fought back, coming within two points of ASU at 13-15 after Cecily Bramschreiber served up an ace, but three unanswered points restored the Sun Devils lead, which they held onto the rest of the way for a 25-20 set victory…
