SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — A 22-year-old man from Texas is facing a federal felony charge of bank robbery after he allegedly attempted to rob an ATM technician outside a Draper Wells Fargo in December.
According to court documents, Jawan Donte Thomas hit multiple ATMs in the Draper-Riverton area on Dec. 17, 2024. Detectives with the Riverton Police Department were notified of an “intentionally damaged and jammed” Wells Fargo ATM and responded to the scene.

Detectives were notified of another damaged and jammed ATM in Draper while investigating the first report. Surveillance video reportedly showed a Jeep that was carrying a license plate registered to a completely different vehicle. Officers were later able to locate the suspect Jeep at a Wells Fargo in Draper.
“Detectives observed the occupants inside the vehicle pull into the bank parking lot and watch the ATM technician make repairs on the machine,” said Trina Higgins, United States Attorney for the District of Utah in a press release. “When the technician opened the safe to the ATM, two occupants wearing ski masks exited the vehicle.”…
