Honer, Weissheim Win ITA All-American Championships Consolation Title

CARY, N.C. – Despite dropping their opening round of the main draw, Gauchos battled back in the consolation bracket, winning five straight doubles matches, to bring some hardware back to Santa Barbara.

SINGLES COMPETITION

Amelia Honer appeared in ten matches in five days, first in the round of 64 facing Florida International’s Oyinlomo Quadre. Honer took the first set in a 7-4 tiebreak, but Quadre forced a third set where the two exchanged games. Ultimately, Honer was unable to find the third set win for a final score of 7-6, 2-6, 4-6.

In the consolation bracket, Honer dominated for a qualifying win of 6-1, 6-1 on Thursday and 6-3, 6-0 on Friday. Her 7-5, 6-3 win on Saturday landed her in the consolation quarterfinals the same afternoon. Honer’s consolation run came to a close in the quarterfinals with a 6-1, 1-6, 5-7 loss against the No.1-ranked player in the country. In all Honer earned three ranked wins on the weekend…
