In the middle of holiday travel where AAA predicted the worst congestion was between San Francisco and Napa, the California Highway Patrol closed a highway in the middle of wine country because of flooding.
Around 10 a.m. on Tuesday, CHP announced on social media that state Route 121 in Sonoma County between 8th St. East and state Route 116 was closed due to flooding. The closure is near a popular intersection that serves the three northern Bay Area counties.
“The runoff is finding its way into Sonoma Creek, causing it to swell. Additionally, the tides are much higher,” Caltrans spokesperson Jeff Weiss told SFGATE. “We’ve had a couple of king tides lately, and that slows the outflow of the creek into the bay. So that’s a recipe for flooding.”…
