Pothole spans lanes, damages tires on busy Bay Area freeway

A pothole spanning multiple lanes was the culprit causing several flat tires early Friday morning in Oakland .

On Dec. 27, around  4:10 a.m., California Highway Patrol received a call from a driver with a flat tire after hitting a pothole driving south on Highway 880, Oakland CHP spokesperson Adib Zeid told SFGATE.

CHP said the pothole measured 8 to 12 feet and stretched across the two lanes closest to the exit. The pothole damaged tires of at least 10 vehicles, according to KRON-TV, requiring tow trucks to remove them from the scene…
