SCV Water is urging customers to conserve water by restricting all outdoor water use during a scheduled maintenance on the facilities at Castaic Lake beginning next week.
The maintenance is scheduled to occur Jan. 6-13, and Jan. 27 – Feb. 2. The maintenance, conducted by the California Department of Water Resources (DWR), involves critical repairs to the pipeline infrastructure at Castaic Lake. During this time, DWR will close SCV Water’s connection to the State Water Project, temporarily halting the delivery of imported water.
During the shutdowns, SCV Water will rely exclusively on local groundwater sources and pre-treated imported water stored in reservoirs throughout the Santa Clarita Valley. In preparation, SCV Water is set to “maximize” storage levels to sustain the community through the maintenance periods.
“About half of the SCV’s water supply comes from local groundwater, while the other half is imported from the State Water Project and other sources,” explained Mike Alvord, Director of Operations and Maintenance at SCV Water. “With the Castaic Lake connection offline, the water will remain in the lake, but we won’t have access to it until the maintenance is complete.”…
