Erik Chalhoub here, bopping to the beat these past few days. The Monterey Jazz Festival concludes its three-day run today, Sept. 29, and the heavy hitters just keep coming.

Twelve-time Grammy Award winner Robert Glasper will be joined by singer-songwriter Yebba tonight at 8:15pm. Even if you’re not familiar with jazz and R&B, you’ve likely heard Glasper’s work—the artist has been involved in many genres and film scores over his career.

Today also features a slate of gospel performances, including that up-and-coming singer Mavis Staples who you probably haven’t heard of. She’s only been inducted into both the Blues and Rock and Roll Hall of Fames, performed at John F. Kennedy’s inauguration, marched with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and named one of the 100 greatest singers of all time by Rolling Stone. I’m glad to see the Monterey Jazz Festival give burgeoning artists a place to grow their career…
