SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Esperanza Shelter in Santa Fe is commemorating by expanding public education on the topic and how New Mexicans can work together to improve the lives of survivors.
Esperanza Shelter is a shelter in Santa Fe for those threatened by domestic violence. Domestic violence is not always physical and can present itself in many ways. As part of domestic violence awareness month, Esperanza Shelter is helping raise awareness by listing some red flags of abusive behavior.
- Controlling or jealous behavior
- Isolating a partner from friends and family
- Tracking a partner’s physical location
- Verbal abuse (degradation, yelling criticisms, put-downs, etc.)
- Not respecting boundaries
- Not taking accountability for actions
Esperanza Shelter is also giving tups on how to help someone who may be experiencing domestic violence…
