Local bookman remembered as beacon of literary warmth

A portrait of beloved local bookseller Nicholas Potter, who died last week after a battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease. The portrait was taken by local professional photographer Elliott McDowell, who was a friend of Potter’s for almost 50 years after Potter gave McDowell his first photography exhibit at his bookstore in 1978.
