Anthony Ojeda, 43, formerly of Cohoes. was sentenced Friday to serve 20 years in state prison in connection to the death of a child just 47 days old.
The sentence was handed down by the Honorable Roger D. McDonough in Albany County Court and is the culmination of an investigation that spanned five years and sent law enforcement officials on a manhunt from Cohoes to Mexico City to secure justice for Baby Eli, who died after ingesting toxic levels of methamphetamine given to him by Ojeda.
“Today is the completion of more than five years of dogged police work and determined prosecutorial resolve, and I hope that those who cared for the child can look at the effort – from the first responders, to law enforcement officials, hospital staff, and our prosecutors – and find solace in the fact that they fought for justice for Baby Eli,” Albany County DA Lee Kindlon said. “The depravity in this case is hard to comprehend, but the love shown for Eli posthumously is inspiring.”…
