COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – A bipartisan bill, led by U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff, to enhance retirement benefits for teachers and first responders in Georgia has now become law.
According to officials, in December, Sen. Ossoff brought Republicans and Democrats together to pass the Social Security Fairness Act, which will increase Social Security benefits for public employees like teachers, firefighters, and law enforcement officers.
The bipartisan law eliminates the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO), which previously reduced or eliminated regular Social Security benefits for workers and their eligible family members.
