Thousands of lights brighten up a community in Lackawanna County

LACKAWANNA COUNTY, Pa. — The moment the lights turn on at the Peckville Christmas House, it’s hard NOT to be impressed. The Peckville Christmas House has been lighting up the neighborhood on Marion Street in Peckville for more than 20 years. The display is a tradition for the Harhut family. Brothers Jeff and Matt tell Newswatch 16 their parents used to take them to look at Christmas lights when they were kids and they decided to set up a display themselves. It started out small.

“Next thing you know, we’re stringing the lights across the fence and in the trees. Every year we’d go bigger and bigger. Eventually it turned into this,” Matt Harhut said.

A display like this takes a long time to set up. The Harhuts start preparing in August and start setting out the blow molds on Halloween…
