Newport Utilities issues boil water notice after excessive flooding

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -According to Newport Utilities, a boil water notice has been issued for Newport in response to flooding that occurred in the area due to Hurricane Helene’s path.

The flooding has caused a risk of water contamination to the water system, officials with Newport Utilities said. Officials released a boil water notice along with an overview map, which is required by the Tennessee Department of Environmental Conservation (TDEC), to alert residents of the possible breach of bacteria into the water system, officials said.

Newport Utilities said forced discontinued water service will take place in the following areas:

  • Denton Road
  • Lindsey Gap Road
  • The town of Hartford
  • Big Creek Road from Hartford to Cabbage County Road

Newport Utilities said customers in the above areas should not drink water without boiling first for at least three minutes. Utility officials are urging customers to use boiled or bottled water for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and preparing food until further notice…
