After a lifetime of pain, woman finds hope in surgery

Since she was a child, Christa Johnston has had multiple brushes with death.

The most recent incident was in February 2021, when the 26-year-old bartender, who works at Confluence in Cramerton, was nearly killed in a four-wheeling accident with an unusual cause: Because of atrophy in her right hand, her right index finger was not functional, and it got stuck in the throttle of a four-wheeler, causing her to wreck.

Her head slammed on the pavement, leaving her with a concussion, and her tailbone was broken…
