A tragic incident unfolded in Gastonia this Sunday morning when a fire ravaged a residence on Grier Street leaving a 77-year-old woman dead and causing significant damage, local authorities have released some new details about the blaze.

As reported by WBTV, the fire broke out around 11:40 a.m. and emergency responders, who arrived swiftly to the scene, managed to evacuate four individuals, unfortunately, they could not save Sally Vernon, identified as the deceased; in addition, a firefighter and a police officer sustained injuries during the rescue efforts but these are not life-threatening, the estimated property damage from the fire stands at around $80,000, which reminds us of the quick and terrible toll such disasters can exact.
