Purdue Pharma to pay TN, other states billions for role in opioid crisis

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A bipartisan coalition of states, including Tennessee, will receive $7.4 billion from Purdue Pharma, Inc. and members of the Sackler family for their “instrumental” role in the crisis. The settlement is the largest to date with respect to individuals’ contributions to the opioid crisis.

A Thursday announcement from the Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti’s office said Tennessee could receive more than $90 million of the settlement.

That funding will be delivered “directly” to communities over the next 15 years to support opioid addiction treatment, prevention and recovery programs.
