‘Hundreds’ of fugitives arrested in Phoenix area during nationwide sting

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Officials say a nationwide crime sting, dubbed “Operation North Star,” ended with the arrest of thousands of fugitives, including hundreds in Arizona alone.

On Friday, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland and the U.S. Marshals Service Director Ronald Davis announced that between May 10 to September 13, deputy U.S. marshals and local law enforcement arrested 3,421 fugitives across the nation.

The suspects were arrested on charges including homicide, sexual offenses, robbery, aggravated assault, and firearms crimes. U.S. Marshals officials say of those arrests, 216 were homicide suspects, 803 for assault, and 482 for weapons offenses…
