Arizona has a litany of weird and wacky laws that make no sense at face value. What do you mean it’s illegal to have a missing tooth, but only if you’re smiling?
Many of these jokey or useless laws tend to be forgotten, and force no real change. One, though, wacky as it sounds, is doing an excellent job at keeping fun… fair.
The Claaaaaaaaaaw
You know claw machines, right? Those incredibly frustrating games nestled in the back of dive bars that makes it seem so so easy to win until you’ve spent 40 straight minutes just trying to get that stuffed elephant.
More often than not, these games are rigged to ensure you can’t actually win anything. Whether the claw is too small to grab the prizes, or the prizes are placed in spots they can’t physically be reached, many game owners just want your precious quarters.

Arizona Says “No More”
In order to combat this very blatant fraud, Arizona passed Criminal Code 13-3312. The law lays out a set of guidelines that must be followed if you’d like to operate a crane machine. The most major part of this is requiring claws have the capacity for any prize in the machine. In other words, the game must be winnable.
The law also cracks down on impossible placement of prizes, as well as misrepresenting the value of said prizes in the game. It also ensures that cash and currency, or items that can be redeemed for said currency, are not allowed in claw machines…
