Developer angry about taxes on three buildings

LE MARS — A developer told the Le Mars City Council he believes the city misled him in a development deal he signed.

Adam Brown grew emotional as he complained about a rising assessment for properties he has at 1333, 1355 and 1377 Holton Drive. Brown said as an incentive, he was provided a seven-year break on city, county and school taxes on the land from the city, with an additional three years of no city taxes.

But, Brown said, the evaluation for each of the properties has increased $900,000 and he was informed by the county that he will be taxed on that. It will cost him thousands of dollars that he had not anticipated.
