County Commissioner says Rhoden’s sales tax proposal wouldn’t benefit everyone

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – On Monday, Rhoden announced his homeowner tax relief proposal that would give counties the option to implement a 0.5% sales tax. We spoke with a Minnehaha County Commissioner about the tradeoffs of the proposal and who it would benefit.

The revenue created from the sales tax would be put into a Property Tax Reduction Fund and would replace revenue from owner-occupied property taxes. This would create a Homeowner Tax Credit, which could lower county property taxes for each homeowner in the county.
