East Wake stifles Hunt, 61-44

Ever since the 3-A Quad County Conference was formed four years ago, East Wake has had Hunt’s number in varsity boys basketball contests between the two teams of Warriors.

East Wake, which has won the last two Quad County regular-season championships after sharing it with Hunt in the league’s first season in 2021-22, overcame an early deficit Thursday night, Jan. 9, in a 61-44 victory at Hunt. It was the sixth win for East Wake in seven conference matchups with Hunt.

The host Warriors, who led 16-8 after the first quarter, slid to 9-5 overall as they saw a five-game winning streak conclude. Hunt sits in fourth place in the eight-team QCC at 2-2 while East Wake is one spot above it a 6-7 overall and 2-1 in league encounters.

The visiting Warriors rallied to tie the score 25-all at halftime then outscored Hunt 36-19 in the second half, including 16-8 in the fourth quarter…
