Connecticut Salvation Army volunteer deploys to Georgia to help with Hurricane Helene relief efforts

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — The cleanup from Hurricane Helene continues in the south as hundreds of thousands remain without power. Sadly, the death toll from the monster storm continues to climb.

A Connecticut Salvation Army volunteer is on the ground in Atlanta, Georgia, telling News 8 about the disaster relief effort underway. Volunteers from the Salvation Army’s Eastern Territory are taking part in a two- to three-week deployment, stationed in the most devastated areas, including parts of Georgia, the Carolinas, Tennessee, Florida and more. They provide meals, water, comfort kits, and emotional and spiritual support to those impacted.

“The Salvation Army has been tremendous in what we do best, and that is being on the ground and helping people,” said Maj. Migdalia Lavenbein, Salvation Army Greater Hartford area coordinator, speaking with News 8 via Zoom…
