Moms in S.C. prisons record storybooks for kids, bridging distance this Christmas

Columbia, S.C. (WACH) — Saturday, a special chance for moms in South Carolina prisons to still give their kids a present this Christmas, thanks to a program called Riley’s Readers.

You know, you take a lot of stuff for granted, like just the littlest things like changing their diapers, their first birthdays, when they get sick. All of that just gets taken away, and you just regret a lot of stuff. You just want them to grow up and know it wasn’t intentional

said one mother.

Families coming into the Camille Graham Correctional Institution to see Santa and the kids getting a one-of-a-kind gift – a recorded storybook from their mom or grandma, so they can hear their voice even when they’re not around.

It’s hard, sometimes you can’t really help what you get into because of where you are from, or you know, your parents are really the shadow to your life. If you see your parents and this way, you’re not going to know that that way is not what you’re not supposed to do…
