Springfield, IL – Central and southern Illinois are under heightened weather threats beginning Wednesday, with severe storms expected across the region and a Flood Watch issued for areas near and south of I-70.
According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, storms could begin early Wednesday morning, bringing hail risks especially west of I-55. The most significant weather is forecast from midday through early evening, with damaging winds, large hail, and a few tornadoes possible. A few evening storms may linger east of I-55.
A Flood Watch goes into effect Wednesday afternoon through Saturday night for southeast Illinois. The heaviest rainfall, potentially over 3 inches, is likely near Olney and Lawrenceville.
