SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WICS) — Tensions ran high at the Springfield City Council meeting as community members rallied in support of Chelsey Farley and Trevor Hopkins, who were seriously injured in a motorcycle crash involving former Springfield Police Sergeant Michael Egan. Egan is facing DUI charges related to the incident.
During the meeting, Springfield Police Chief Ken Scarlette addressed questions from the council regarding the timing of the sobriety test administered to Egan.
Scarlette explained, “The more effective way to hold someone accountable is to draw their blood which involves getting a search warrant from a judge and a state’s attorney to sign that. That holds up more strongly in court.” He added, “When we turned the case over to the state police, that’s exactly what they did, and when they drew his blood, he was more than double, I believe, the legal limit.”…
