SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — The Springfield Police Department announced that they will be making extra efforts to prevent “pop up parties” and other illegal gatherings as summer approaches.
Illinois bill aims to limit suspensions for students in preschool through 2nd grade
In a Facebook post on Thursday, the department said that they will use video surveillance and license plate reader cameras in order to prevent these gathering from taking place. They also said that these parties could result in a mob action class 4 felony, vehicle violations that could result in tow and impound fees, and fines from $250 all the way up to $50,000.
In accordance with Section 110.999, the following penalties could be enforced, the department added:
- $250 minimum fine for promoting or sponsoring a “special event” without a required license.
- $10,000 minimum fine (up to $50,000) if an unlicensed event leads to a police presence. This includes emergency and non-emergency calls.
The department is asking anyone who sees or knows about unauthorized block parties or any other type of suspicious activity to report it to them.
