Long campaign pays off: CT town opens $145 million high school

As the buses began arriving for the first day of classes Tuesday morning, high school students in Farmington became the first to walk the halls and sit in the classrooms of the town’s new $145 million flagship school .

The roughly 1,250 students, 140 teachers and 60 other staffers who are inaugurating the new building this week are seeing a vastly lighter and brighter school than the one they were in last spring. The new design is heavy on airy collaborative work areas, spacious plazas and extensive natural light.

Educators are predicting the modern building will help Farmington’s goal of graduating “global citizens” who remain resourceful, civic-minded and inquiring into adulthood.
