NYPD: Man, 27, arrested for wild chases in stolen cars on Staten Island Expressway

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A man driving stolen cars led police on wild chases on the Staten Island Expressway and the streets of our borough, including one pursuit that led to a crash where the defendant fled on foot, authorities allege.

When Luis Valdez, 27, of Mundy Avenue in West Brighton, was arrested earlier this month, he was already on probation for a three-mile chase in September. Police say that the arrests involved two different stolen Acura TLX sedans.

Valdez was allegedly driving a stolen Acura with a Florida license plate when he was arrested on Jan. 5 at about 11 p.m. at Bay Street and Maryland Avenue in Rosebank in connection with a chase in December. Valdez’s license was revoked or suspended when he was arrested on that date, according to the criminal complaint…
