Surry, Yadkin residents eligible for Helene recovery jobs program

Surry and Yadkin county residents have become eligible to apply for temporary jobs from a North Carolina Department of Commerce program designed to connect people willing and ready to work with Hurricane Helene related recovery jobs. Officials with the department said the grant will allow for residents in 39 counties to apply for work in jobs that support either Helene related clean-up and recovery or ongoing humanitarian assistance.

“Many companies are currently hiring for immediate needs related to disaster rcovery,” the Commerce Department said. “Grants like this one fund temporary jobs in response to large, unexpected events that cause significant job losses. Participants may work for nonprofit organizations, state or local agencies, or private businesses engaged in relevant disaster-recovery work.”

With Friday’s announcement, residents of 39 counties are open to apply. Surry and Yadkin counties had not been on the initially approved list of 25 counties for the program released in October; locally only Alleghany and Wilkes counties had been previously included…
