Eagle observation flies high in Southbury

SOUTHBURY, Conn. — You don’t need eagle eyes, but binoculars or a long lens help.

When the temperatures during Winter drop, the bald eagles come to the Shepaug Eagle Observatory, and this marks their 39th season in Southbury against the backdrop of the Housatonic River.

Lucy Walker, who has been with the Observatory since 2001 and is now the site manager said, “Bald Eagles in the wintertime start traveling south looking for open water to fish and that what they find here because we produce electricity, and the water moves, and it prevents the ice from forming so they can fish.”…
