From crown to compassion: Miss South Carolina’s bid to win Miss America

Columbia, S.C. (WACH) — Davis Wash won the hearts of South Carolinians back in June after being crowned Miss South Carolina. Now this impressive young woman is taking her talent and platform to the big stage for her bid to win Miss America. It’s a title she said is more of a true calling. “My year of Miss South Carolina was special because I kind of had that grounded presence ever since the crown was placed on my head because I knew what I wanted to do,” said Wash.

Wash works to empower children whose parents are in prison. She said her platform started as a painful experience that led her to passion. “Real life hit my family, my father had to serve six months for a non-violent no restitution financial crime,” said Wash. “I was all of a sudden sitting in a waiting room as a freshman in college every weekend waiting to see my dad.”

Before competing for Miss South Carolina and even after winning wash has partnered with several different prison initiatives including Sesame St., and the American Correctional Association which invited her to speak before Congress.
