There are a million incredible places to go in the world, from the jungles of Southeast Asia to the cobblestoned streets of Western Europe. You could travel to a new city every week for the rest of your life and still see only a fraction of what planet earth has to offer. But Lonely Planet’s latest Best In Travel awards make a compelling argument to explore our own backyard in 2025. That’s because the region encompassing the South Carolina Lowcountry and Coastal Georgia was named one of the top 30 best places to travel in 2025.

Alongside countries like Cameroon, Fiji, and Slovakia and far-flung regions like Valais in Switzerland and the Jordan Trail in the Middle East, is our very own Lowcountry South Carolina Coastal Georgia. Winners were divided into three categories: counties, cities, and regions. The Lowcountry and Coastal Georgia took home the top spot for regions, while Cameroon was number one for countries and Toulouse, France was the top city to visit.
