Syracuse men’s soccer concedes two late goals in disappointing loss to Wake Forest

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (247 Sports) – Syracuse entered Friday night’s game against Wake Forest touting a 3-3-3 record. While pleasing to the eye, this symmetrical tally isn’t what Orange fans were hoping the 2023-24 campaign had in store for them. When the 0-1-2 record in conference play is factored in, Syracuse’s season up to this point has to be considered a bit disappointing. The Orange’s last time out was a tight contest against Temple on Tuesday night, where another late goal conceded condemned Syracuse to a 1-0 loss. On the other hand, the Demon Deacons came to SU Soccer Stadium on a full week of rest after falling to #4 Clemson last Friday night. With both teams looking to grab their first ACC victory, it was Wake Forest that found two goals late in the second half and are heading back to North Carolina with a 2-1 win.

Head coach Ian McIntyre made three changes to the starting eleven that failed to score against Temple on Tuesday night. Freshmen Kelvin Da Costa and Braedon Smith were involved from the first whistle, and usual starter Nathan Scott was reinserted after a rare appearance off the bench earlier this week. Ben Rosenblatt, Michael Acquah and Kristjan Fortier were the three players dropped to the pine.

McIntyre came into the contest expecting it to be a competitive game, saying that “Wake is a good team, lots of good players. They were my pick to win the ACC this year, it shows the parity and quality [of the conference] and how important getting points are.”…
