SANTA ROSA COUNTY, Fla. ( WKRG ) — A Tallahassee father advocated for stricter hands-free driving laws Thursday morning at the Santa Rosa County Commissioners’ meeting.
His son was killed by a distracted driver in 2014, which sparked his call for these laws on a statewide tour.

The meeting is part of Demetrius Branca’s “Driving Change for Safer Streets” tour. The effort aims to urge local and state leaders to pass hands-free driving legislation prohibiting cell phone use while driving.
Branca’s tour has already included stops at the Wakulla County Commission on Monday and the City of Tallahassee on Wednesday. Following Santa Rosa, Branca said he plans to visit the Gilchrist County and Union County commissions next Monday, attending Union if time permits. On Wednesday, he hopes to speak at the Palm Beach County Legislative Delegation Meeting.
