First Day Hikes tradition to continue across Michiana on New Year’s Day

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. (WNDU) – Save the date. The great outdoors is calling once again, telling you to take a hike on January 1st.

It’s a time-honored tradition that started in Milton, Massachusetts, in 1992 when park officials organized the very first hike to take place on the first day of the new year.

First Day Hikes began some 17 years before Robinson Woods Preserve in Chikaming Township opened its grounds to hikers. Yet, it has signed up to be part of the program again this year…
