Indiana Mother Sentenced to Probation in Child Neglect Case Following Infant’s Severe Rat Attack Injuries

An Indiana mother has been sentenced to probation after her six-month-old son was severely injured in a rat attack in their home. Angel Schonabaum, 29, pled guilty to one count of neglect of a dependent and will not serve any additional prison time beyond what she already has served. According to WRTV, Schonabaum was credited with the year served and the remaining balance of the sentence was suspended to probation.

Covered in more than 50 rat bites and with injuries so severe that included exposed bones on his fingertips, the events leading to the incident featured an infant who was “near fatal event” described by doctors, with treatment including a blood transfusion.
