You Won’t Believe the Coldest Night In Midland and Odessa

BURRRRR!!! It has been cold in the Permian Basin and all over Texas! An arctic blast has made its way to the Lonestar State this week. The cold weather brings everyone’s war stories of conquering the coldest day or night they have experienced.

If you ask Gen Z or maybe even Millennials, they will bring up The Great Freeze of 2021, where some of Texas experienced -6 degree temps. Most of us still have PTSD from the winter weather mayhem. Some people were out of electricity for days. Cell phone towers were down and many people couldn’t get a hold of emergency responders.

COLDEST NIGHT IN TEXAS

To re-visit the coldest night recorded in Texas we have to go back to February 12th, 1899. The coldest weather recorded here in the Lonestar State was at Tulia in Swisher County. Tulia is located in the Panhandle where temps dropped to a dangerous -23 degrees.

If you want to explore more realms, the unofficial coldest night hit in Wolf Creek in Ochitree County also in the Panhandle, on the same night. The temperature was rumored to hit 30 degrees below zero.
