Edgewater City Council fires city manager as it continues to struggle with flooding woes

Not even three minutes ticked by before a motion was made to fire Edgewater City Manager Glenn Irby in a special meeting Friday night, a move that was met with a brief round of applause and was no doubt tied to continuing problems with flooding.

Mayor Diezel DePew attempted to jettison Irby “with cause” and ticked off several areas where he said the city manager had not lived up to his contract. But the council rejected the attempt, firing with NO cause. Jeff Thurman, the deputy director of environmental services was unanimously approved as interim city manager.

“Best pick in my opinion. If I can help, please call,” wrote Irby in a LinkedIn post. Thurman replied that he would “try and make you proud.”…
