Today in history: Manton to add bus

Three new ordinances designed to assist in the regulation of traffic in Cadillac were introduced at the recent meeting of the City Commission. Ordinance No. 368 establishes the right of the city to designate through streets to stop traffic before entering streets so designated. At present the state laws make trunk line highways through streets and these are so marked, but it may be desirable to set aside other streets for through streets and this privilege is granted in the new ruling. Ordinance No. 367 establishes the legal rate of speed across the long bridge at 10 miles an hour and imposes a penalty of $50 fine or 30 days in jail for violation. This speed limit is made necessary by the condition of the bridge and for the safety of the motoring public. Ordinance No. 366 prohibits parking cars on the concrete of the boulevard. This ordinance is designed to conform with the state law which already prohibits parking on the roadway of trunk lines outside city limits. The boulevard has been included in the city limits but is in reality a suburban highway, hence the special municipal legislation…
