Two New Candidates Heat Up NJ Governor’s Race

NEW JERSEY — The race to replace Gov. Phil Murphy in 2025 got more crowded, heating up as Montclair Mayor Sean Spiller and Rep. Josh Gottheimer entered the fray.

Democrats Spiller and Gottheimer join a field of candidates that already includes former state Sen. Stephen Sweeney, Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop and Newark Mayor Ras Baraka. NJ Rep. Mikie Sherrill is expected to formally announce on Monday, Nov 18th.

Meanwhile, Republican gubernatorial hopefuls, so far, include media peronality Bill Spadea, state Sen. Jon Bramnick and former Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli. A few other Republicans are considering runs for governor, but have not announced their candidacies…
