Traffic data being recorded in Ballston Spa

BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) -To make speed limits around the village more clear, Ballston Spa officials purchased radar signs. They flash the speed of a vehicle before it drives past and warn the driver to slow down when over the speed limit.

“We wanted to do something that might collect data so we got these signs by Traffic Logix that actually go to the cloud,” said Mayor Frank Rossi Jr. “Traffic numbers generally on some of these roads, different northbound or southbound in terms of how people travel. So, it’s really interesting information but the biggest thing is about the compliance at the end of the day.”

If you’ve been caught speeding, the signs can’t give out tickets but Mayor Rossi says you should consider these signs to be your final warning. Patrols will increase in areas with frequent speeders.

“We do have the ability with these signs now to say, ‘Hey, why don’t we go over there because these speed signs aren’t doing the job necessarily.’”

80% of drivers stay under the 30 mph speed limit on most roads according to the collected data. The current hotspot is Fairground Avenue, where the highest speed recorded was almost 50 and only 50% follow the rules…
