TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – Westside road widening and park improvements face a bumpy ride after the city made a wrong turn in how it handled culturally sensitive land. The area along Silverbell Road near the Santa Cruz River is known for its high potential to hold Native American artifacts. Two projects face delays after some actions by the city appear to ignore that fact.
Adding ballfields at Christopher Columbus Park and installing water infrastructure along Silverbell Road before a planned widening each moved ahead without adequate monitoring. The City of Tucson is working to show that it will be more careful moving forward.
